The play opens with a song while Derek “Danger” Dale creeps and leaps about the stage. Immediately you know it has the same humour and energy as Michael Gerard Bauer’s book.
It includes all the key scenes, and builds up to the swimming carnival, as Eric tries desperately to have the type of win that will finally rid him of his terrible nick name. The songs are fun, as well as spinning desks, swimming as a kind of dance, and the occasional character falling into the pool of deadly piranhas.
If you liked the books, you need to see it Friday 6.45pm or Saturday 2pm and 6pm at Studio 188. Performed by That Production Company.
Stars Patrick Dwyer, Asabi Goodman, Sam Colwell, Charlene Marsters, Toby Martin. Adapted by Timothy Wynn and Cassie Ramsey, Music by Liz Flynn.
